Fourth in series based on a drashah (talk) by Rav Tzvi Meir Zilberberg of Yerushalem during the week of Parshas Korach 5757. What exactly does the term "nachpesah dracheinu" (investigate our action) mean? We are not allowed to cause another Jew to feel broken-hearted [i.e., hurting his feelings - this is different from helping someone feel broken-heartedness which leads to teshuvah]. Am I a person who, because of my way of speaking, causes others hurt? If yes, then this is a sign that Hashem is not pleased with me. Thinking about what we say before words leave our lips. The source of a particular action or words. The many, and difficult halachos (laws) of lashon harah (evil speech), be it in business, a shidduch (match-making) discussion, or merely an off-the-cuff remark. We need to make a conscious decision to see the good in every Jew [(s)he does, after all, have a divine soul!]. The mistake of coming to a conclusion about a person based on how (s)he dresses.
